Ah Superheroes, They are everywhere. Films, TV Shows, Games and of course where they started, In comic books. Superheroes have really started coming through again in the last few years from the 1st of CW’s superhero shows in Arrow to 2016’s Batman Vs Superman. So last year we had Deadpool, Batman Vs Superman, Captain America 3 Civil War, X-Men Apocalypse, Suicide Squad and Finally Dr Strange. But the question is, what was the best and worse? Let’s see.
6. Suicide Squad
Despite some great performances by Will Smith and the incredible performance of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, The Writing and the idea of this team against the particular villain to what i personally feel is a horrible performance from Jared Letto as the joker this film just simply didn’t work. Going back to Jared Letto as The Joker, Mark Hamill is the perfect voice for the animated Joker versions from the Arkham video games to The Killing Joke he is the perfect voice for him. And of course the memorable Heath Ledger, Both simply put Jared to shame and although he has only been in one film in Suicide Squad he just didn’t work for me. Margot Robbie was a fantastic Harley Quinn and I can’t wait for her to be in Gotham City Sirens, Will Smith was a great Deadshot although i am sceptical for him to have his own film unless we get some other characters in that film. Suicide Squad could have been so much better but it simply wasn’t.
5. X-Men Apocalypse
Was this a bad superhero film? No. But it just felt like another X-Men film which is fine but also gives it 5th spot on this list as it just doesn’t do anything special or new.
4. Dr Strange
So the first new and fresh film for Dr Strange. It was definitely a nice change of pace from your X-Men and Avengers 2 sets of characters that we have seen plenty of at this point. So it was refreshing to see a fresh appearance from Dr Strange, It was also an amazing and fun film, The magic was pretty cool too.
3. Batman Vs Superman
So yes Batman vs Superman had some for complaints things they got wrong, But you know what was great about this film? Seeing a phenomenal Wonder Woman in Gal Gadot, An excellent Batman in Ben Affleck and the return of the great Superman in Henry Cavill, All being on the same screen at the same time essentially setting up the characters for the Justice League coming this year of course.
2. Deadpool
Deadpool is almost like a nicer version of Negan who doesn’t insult people as much (also without a baseball bat), He’s here for the jokes and to get the mission done. I can’t wait for Deadpool 2 and wherever else he may appear in.
1. Captain America 3 Civil War
Action, High stakes, Lots of superheroes on screen, New characters and returning recast ones. Captain America was amazing and also set up a few characters for interesting futures such as the newly cast Spider-Man, Black Panther, Iron Man, Captain America himself and also with Bucky/Winter Soldier.
